Music Play www.musicplay.ca
Musicplay is an award winning music curriculum for elementary
schools. Musicplay is a sequential curriculum with lessons that follow the
calendar year. The weekly lesson outlines the new concepts that will be
taught, those that will be reviewed, and include seasonal and holiday
repertoire. The planning is done for the teacher! Musicplay is aligned to
the national standards of both Canada and the USA. Curriculum correlations
for many provinces and states are available upon request.
Musical concepts are taught through play. Each week in Grades 1-5 a new
singing game is featured. The songs and games are chosen to teach musical
concepts, to teach children about Canada and about cultures around the
world, and to provide songs for special days and performances throughout the
school year. The most important factor in selecting songs for this series,
is that songs appeal to children! There are many additional activities in
the teacher\'s guides to have the students creating rhythm compositions,
creating soundscapes, and creating accompaniments to poems and stories.
The Musicplay teacher’s guides include CD recordings with more than 100
musical selections per grade level. The Listening Resource Kits provide the
most comprehensive listening component of any music curriculum in North
America. The Listening Resource Kits feature recordings from the library of
the CBC. Musicplay is the first music text in Canada (or the USA) to offer
PowerPoints of every song in the program. Our electronic editions feature
music that has been re-formatted to fit the screen. Our music is larger and
easier to read because we’ve sized the page to correctly fit on a Smartboard
or screen.
Musicplay is the only Canadian music program with piano accompaniments for
every grade level. Our piano accompaniments are exceptional. The
arrangements are interesting, well formatted, easy to use, easy to read, and
very playable. Chord symbols are included and vocal parts are given on a
separate staff.
Musicplay supports and enhances science, social studies, and language arts
curriculums. Musicplay is a curriculum that can be used by a classroom
teacher with limited musical training. Music specialists appreciate the
planning and sequencing that is done for them. Musicplay is widely used
throughout Canada and the USA and in many international schools.

University Settlement Music and Arts School www.usrc.ca
Founded in 1921, the Music and Arts School at University Settlement is one of North America\'s longest running community music schools. The School offers a variety of music and arts programs for children, teens, adults and seniors. Our programs include individual lessons on a variety of instruments and voice. In addition, we offer a variety of group programs for children and adults, including choirs, drumming circle, ear training, theory, dance, recorder ensemble and chamber music. Our programs are open to all and no auditions or prior experience is required, with the exception of our chamber music program which is designed for students of an intermediate or higher level.
We have a subsidy fund available for children from low income families who qualify. University Settlement is a multi-service agency that was founded in 1910 and has the distinction of being the first community-based social service centre in the City of Toronto. With a full and part-time staff of approximately 150, University Settlement has developed programs to address the needs of more than 30,000 users annually through diverse areas such as day care, settlement services, employment counselling, senior services, youth programming and English language classes. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto and bordering on the revitalized Grange Park, University Settlement is part of a culturally rich and vibrant neighbourhood.
