About the Organizers: The Coalition for Music Education in Canada

The Coalition for Music Education in Canada believes in the contribution that music education makes in the lives of all Canadians. We believe that music is key – in learning and in life. The mission of the Coalition for Music Education in Canada is to raise awareness and appreciation of the role that music plays in Canadian culture and to advocate for its continued presence in our schools. It is the goal of the Coalition to see that all children have the right and opportunity to receive, through their core curriculum, quality sequential music programs.

The Coalition was founded in 1992 when representatives of more than 20 music education-based associations came together to share ideas to improve the state of music education in Canada. The organization began to work with parents and other concerned citizens to address concerns about music in schools. Since then, the Coalition has grown in size and impact including the Champions for Music Education initiative, as well as the nationally recognized Music Monday national event. Members of the Coalition include educators, industry representatives, artists and performers, parents and music lovers across Canada.
