Tubist Scott Irvine cannot be categorized. His arrangements and compositions are regularly featured by a variety of ensembles and have been documented on several CBC discs. His remarkable instrumental gifts (Don Ferguson of The Royal Canadian Air Farce calls him "Tuba Tyrant Extraordinaire") have found him in constant demand in musical situations ranging from the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra to Sharon, Lois and Bram's "Elephant Show". Scott is also in great demand as a solo performer of new music.

Primarily a composer of music for concert band and brass instruments, his Fantasia (1981/83) and Hannaford Overture (1986) are performed by bands across North America. His Aubade (1988) for cornet and band proved so popular that it has twice been re-issued with string orchestra and organ accompaniments. Many of his works have been recorded by the Hannaford Street Silver Band and are available on several CBC compact discs.
